Aquacut Quattro |
|
Aquacut Quattro is the ideal tool for minimally invasive and cosmetic dentistry. Its patient-friendly stain removal and cavity preparation make it a favorite with your patients. It’s a fraction of the cost of a hard tissue laser, fast, efficient, cutting and cleaning with very high levels of patient acceptability. No direct contact with the tooth structure - no vibration, turbine noise, heat generation or smell, and greatly reduced need for local anesthesia. Unique handpiece creates a fluid curtain around the powder medium, for increased efficiency during cutting, and control of airborne powder and debris. Triple action foot control speeds treatment by allowing cut, wash and dry operations through the same handpiece. No chipping or stress fracturing, and minimal loss of sound tooth material. An ideal tool for the repair of composites. Aquacut Quattro gives you greater control and flexibility than any other piece of equipment that you own.
Prophy and cavity preparation without rotation
The Aquacut fluid abrasion system from Velopex has been widely acclaimed by practitioners seeking more patient-friendly approaches to caries treatment and general dentistry. This versatile cutting and cleaning instrument offers important benefits to both dentist and patient. It can even be used for veterinary dentistry.
Less patient trauma
Unlike conventional rotary cutting instruments, the Aquacut is not in direct contact with the tooth structure. There is no vibration, heat generation, turbine noise or smell. Local anesthesia is seldom needed, saving time and making the Aquacut ideal for treating young, nervous or needle-phobic patients.
Unique particle control technology
The Aquacut Quattro’s patented handpiece delivers a high-speed fluid stream, fed from a self-contained reservoir, to create a liquid curtain around the abrasive medium. This provides comfortable and efficient cavity preparation.
Time-saving foot control
The triple action foot control enables cut, clean, wash and dry operations to be carried out through the same handpiece, allowing continuous operation without interruption.
Function changes at the twist of a switch
The twin powder chambers permit cutting and prophy or stain removal at the twist of a switch. For example, suspicions concerning an area of possible decay can be confirmed with the Aquacut Quattro in cleaning mode, and then treated by switching back to cutting mode.
The perfect tool for modern adhesive dentistry
The Aquacut Quattro is the right tool for today’s adhesive dentistry. It enables the rapid repair of composites and leaves cavity surfaces rough and ready for receiving the bonding agent and the filling materials. It is excellent for the repair of composites and of existing fillings that have begun to fail.
Safe, conservative cutting
The Aquacut Quattro cuts quickly but very conservatively, minimizing the removal of sound tooth material, with risk of chipping or stress fracturing is eliminated.
Effective stain removal
In cleaning mode, the Aquacut Quattro is a valuable tool for the hygienist. It is highly efficient at stain removal and cleaning. It also increases the effectiveness of tooth whitening procedures.
Versatile, easy-to-use handpiece
The autoclavable handpiece comes in color-coded nozzle sizes. The long-life tungsten carbide nozzles are easily changed to suit the treatment.
Convenient powder cartridge system
Color-coded, disposable powder cartridge system ensures quick, hygienic refills and powder grade changes.
Complete and ready-to-use
The Aquacut Quattro package includes the twin-chamber Aquacut unit plus handpiece and an introductory pack of powders. A suitable air compressor can be supplied at extra cost if required.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Clinical Applications
- Class I – Class VI cavity preparation, cleaning & decay removal
- Crown preparation before cementation
- Preventive Resin Restoration (PRR)
- Composite/porcelain repair and restoration
- Orthodontic bracket etching
- Cleaning & polishing, removing tea/tobacco staining
- Removing vegetal plugs or other matter prior to diagnosis of hidden caries
Aquacut Quattro without drill or anesthesia
Removal of glass ionomer and composite restorations, conservative preparations, etching porcelain and cleaning and etching of tooth surfaces before fissure sealing can all be done without the drill; often without the use of anesthetic.
How does Aquacut Quattro compare for speed?
Speed, powder and water volume can be varied within very wide limits, giving the Clinician complete control and high versatility of operation: mostly used without anesthetic, in most cases there will be a saving of time with each patient.
How safe is Aluminium Oxide?
Aluminium Oxide is not toxic and will not cause respiratory problems. Aquacut works with 53 micron powder and 29 micron, and this places them well clear of the allowable (legal) safe level in the event of any accidental inhalation.
Is soft tissue affected?
Soft tissue is not likely to be damaged since the energy of the abrasion process is absorbed by any soft tissue coming into contact.
Sensitivity of teeth under treatment
Sensitivity in the dentine is usually swiftly controlled by a slight reduction in air pressure. Cutting with short abrasive bursts will help to avoid any patient reaction. Cutting near the pulp exposure this is especially important – with low air pressure the experienced Clinician can prepare cavities without patient sensitivity.
Controlling the depth when cutting
The tip should be in motion and with short bursts of the abrasive stream. If the tip is held stationary with active abrasion the depth of cut increases.
If soft decay is encountered
Soft decay is best removed with Sodium Bicarbonate or using your usual method. For some patients anesthesia may be necessary, but most will tolerate the mild discomfort once the procedure has been explained to them.
Using Aquacut Quattro for diagnosis of caries
In “cleaning/polishing” mode using Sodium Bicarbonate, foreign matter e.g. a vegetal plug may be concealing a carious lesion within a fissure or pit. At the twist of a control the Clinician can change to the chosen cutting medium – WITHOUT REMOVING THE HANDPIECE FROM THE ORAL CAVITY – and proceed with treating the lesion. This diagnostic use of Aquacut Quattro has proved to be a great attribute for the dental practitioner, especially for its assistance in conservative dentistry.
Versatility of control
The Clinician has a wide range of settings in his control, with air pressure, powder and water volume variable to suit all his abrasion procedures. Conservative, time-saving, patient-friendly. |

Powder - Aluminium Oxide (29 Micron)
Designed for conservative dentistry, Aluminium Oxide helps the Clinician remove as little sound tooth material as is practical whilst removing decay and in a way that affords minimal discomfort to the patient.
A system of cutting tooth material that has met with some success has been air abrasion: it is almost a perfect way to prepare for adhesive materials. Air abrasion can cut conservatively and quietly without heat generation or vibration. The cut surface is perfectly textured for bonding adhesive material.
- It is the perfect tool for conservative procedures - far more so than the turbine, because it minimises the loss of sound tooth structure.
- It cuts tooth structure in a way that leaves the surface to be filled textured perfectly for adhesive material – minimum etch if at all.
- It cuts without causing the stress fractures which are normally present with the use of rotary cutting instruments using Diamond and Tungsten burs.
- It eliminates the noise of the air turbine whose whine strikes fear into the mind of many patients in the chair and waiting areas. The facts are that the most feared instruments in the dental armoury are the drill and the syringe needle - eliminate or reduce the use of these, and many more patients will be happy to make that important visit to the dentist.
- It reduces the need for local anesthesia because of its gentle cutting action.
- It enables fast repair of existing composite fillings whose margins have begun to fail: why dig out the whole road when all it needs is resurfacing?
Aluminium Oxide is able to cut through: Ceramics, Composites, Compomers and Glass Ionomers as well as Enamel and Dentine. Up to 3 x faster when used with helium. Dental Practices who have been using Aquacut for any time are always enthusiastic about its abilities with ‘sticky’ fissures.
Outside the mouth, Aluminium Oxide is effective in removing cement and re-etching crowns and bridges. Orthdontic Practices are also enthusiastic about Aquacut Quattro as a precision tool for placing orthodontic brackets.

Powder - Sodium Bicarbonate
Velopex are delighted to announce the arrival of the new Velopex Aquacut ‘Superfine’ Sodium Bicarbonate Cleaning and Polishing Powder. This product is packed in the standard Aquacut clear plastic ‘pots’ and will work in any Aquacut model.
This ‘superfine’ powder offers some major benefits over the powder that it replaces. Due to the smaller particle size and reduced angularity there is less soft tissue tingling for the patient, making treatment more pleasant.
Sodium Bicarbonate is an excellent choice for Stain Removal and Polishing as well as for the removal of soft decay. The advantage of using Sodium Bicarbonate (at low pressures and low powder flow) for the removal of soft decay is that there is no chance of an exposure. As soon as the soft decay has been removed, the dentine beneath is harder than the Sodium Bicarbonate and no more removal will take place. If you were to take a standard dental probe to the newly exposed dentine, then you would discover that it is ‘leathery’. Clearly, at that point, you can return to your normal principles of dentistry. However, by using Aluminium Oxide (either 29 or 53 micron) in the cavity (at the same low pressures and low powder flow) you will be able to etch all surfaces ready for bonding and restoration.

Sylc for Aquacut
‘Sylc for Aquacut’ is a phosphosilicate based bio-glass material designed to replace Velopex fine grain Sodium Bicarbonate in the left hand chamber of your Aquacut unit – it will fit into any Aquacut unit, no matter how old.
The product is designed to offer an ability to remove stain, plaque and biofilm efficiently without the soft tissue sensitivity often associated with the crystalline structure of Sodium Bicarbonate. As a Silica based product there is no salty taste as there is with Sodium Bicarbonate. Sylc is a rounder, harder particle when compared to Sodium Bicarbonate making stain removal much more efficient at the same air pressures. The Sylc powder lightens the tooth surface restoring its natural pearlessence. The Sylc powder also removes more coffee, tobacco and betelnut stains, in a shorter period of time.
This makes Sylc a perfect product to use pre-whitening in order to prepare the teeth for the bleaching gel.
The main advantage of the bioglass is its ability to produce hydroxycarbonate apatite crystals (HCA) when combined with water (as in the water spray of an Aquacut unit) or saliva. The process starts immediately and takes effect over the following 24 hours. This means that during the stain removal procedure, open dentine tubules are occluded with HCA. This gives a much longer term desensitizing effect than can be obtained with Sodium Bicarbonate – which is water soluble.
Due to its properties as a bioglass, Sylc will only remove stain and damaged tooth material, leaving healthy tooth material intact – this is operator independent – making this product much easier to use.
Use Sylc after creating the cavity ready for bonding – then quickly to give a treated surface for perfect retention.
Benefits include:
- Remove stain with less soft tissue irritation and no salty taste
- Remove more stubborn plaque than Velopex Fine grain Sodium Bicarbonate.
- Treat while you clean
- Regeneration that leads to less sensitive brighter and healthier teeth.
- A restoration process that continues between visits to the dentist

Zephyr Compressor |
|
| The beautifully finished Velopex Zephyr 150 has been designed to operate in the surgery, to take in air at atmospheric pressure and provide two pressurized outputs. This is the first Compressor designed specifically to be sited within the Dental Surgery and can be mounted either on a Velopex trolley (which can also house the Velopex Aquacut Quattro as well as the Velopex Colour Diode Laser) or sited within cabinetry. The twin air outputs allow use for other machines, therefore enabling you to run extra air-driven equipment as required. Using one fixed pressure output for the Velopex Aquacut Quattro at 7.5bar and the other variable output – up to 7.5bar - the Velopex Zephyr 150 can be used to power air turbines as well as scalers, 3-in-1 syringes, chairs or side delivery units. The small capacity holding tank means low maintenance, whilst the fast cycle twin head pump provides over 150 litres of dry, oil-free, sanitised compressed air per minute. This makes one Velopex Zephyr 150 the ideal base for a complete surgery air supply. For multi-surgery practices, rather than having a central compressor or, where a failure closes the entire practice - use a Velopex Zephyr 150 in each surgery. |
